We are not trying to be the biggest HVAC company in Los Angeles County. We are trying to be the one the beach cities keep calling back.
Who we are
Local on purpose, small on purpose
TrueCanvas works out of Riviera Village, and almost everything we cover is inside a twenty-minute drive. That is a deliberate limit, not a lack of ambition. A short radius is what lets us give a scheduling window and keep it, and come back the same week if something is not right.
It also means we see the same housing stock over and over: the 1940s bungalows south of Torrance Boulevard, the 1970s two-storeys up the hill, the tightly packed new builds on the Esplanade side. After a while you stop guessing about what is behind a wall.
The person who quotes your job is the person who does it. There is no sales department, because there are not enough of us to have one.
How we work
Four things we will not bend on
These are the ones customers usually find out about the hard way, with somebody else.
- A price before the work
- Scope and number in writing, approved by you before anything starts. If something else turns up once a unit is open, we stop and re-quote rather than continuing and explaining on the invoice.
- Nobody works on commission
- No technician here earns more by selling you a new system. It is the only arrangement under which "this has a few years left in it, let's repair it" can be an honest answer rather than a thing contractors say.
- We show you what we found
- Readings, the failed part, the corroded fin pack, the disconnected duct. If we cannot show you why something needs replacing, it does not need replacing.
- We finish the job
- Line-set covers on and painted, condensate running where it should, old equipment taken away, packaging gone, system left running while we are still standing there. The name is about the finish.
Credentials
The boring part that protects you
Ask any contractor for these before they touch your house. We would rather you did.
Refrigerant handling
EPA Section 608 certified technicians, proper recovery equipment, and refrigerant handled and recorded as the regulations require.
Permits & Title 24
We pull the permit on changeouts that need one, prepare the Title 24 documentation, schedule the inspection and hand over the closed permit.
Being straight about it
What we do not take on
Knowing what to say no to is most of what keeps a small shop good.
- Large commercial rooftop work and refrigeration — different equipment, different trade. We will point you at someone who does it.
- Jobs a long way outside the South Bay. If we cannot get back quickly when something needs attention, we should not have taken it.
- Installing equipment somebody else supplied. We warranty what we fit, which means we have to choose it.
- Replacing a system that does not need replacing, however much easier that would be for everyone.
